Reading Log
Each student is expected to read at least 30 minutes at home each day. Reading logs will be given out each Friday, kept for an entire week, and turned in the following Friday. In addition, students will be given 10 - 20 minutes of class time for reading each day.
Parent signatures are not required on the reading log, however, they are highly encouraged.

I.R.P. (Independent Reading Program)
Each student is required to read at least one novel per month. Each book should be a substantial chapter book on or above the student's Lexile level. Each student will be required to complete a book report form detailing the elements of the story, one I.R.P. project and present a book talk to the class.
Due dates and genres are listed on the class calendar and will be announced in class. *Each student will be provided with a green file folder with details and instructions inside. |
Spelling
Spelling lists will be distributed each Monday, and students will take a test each Friday. There will be some time for studying in class, but words should be reviewed at home as well. Here is a list of spelling assignments - students should complete at least 4 different assignments at home each week.
Language Arts (L.A.) Workshop
Approximately 40 minutes of class time will be spent in Language Arts workshop. Students will be expected to work independently or in small groups on various skills such as comprehension, fluency, grammar, spelling, editing, and vocabulary.
