Homework Policy
Students in 6th grade can expect about 50 - 60 minutes of homework per night (not including 30 minutes of reading).
Homework is an essential part of the learning process. It is intended to be an extension of skills learned in class, and given as additional practice of those skills. Students should be able to complete their homework with little to no assistance from family members. If a student is having trouble with homework, there are some online resources listed on the appropriate subject area page, which may be helpful. If those resources do not provide the necessary assistance, do not stress!! We will be reviewing homework in class the following day.
It is most important to show effort!!

Redo Policy
If a student scores less than 80% on a piece of classwork, they will have the opportunity to resubmit the work within 24 hours for an updated grade. If a student does not choose to utilize this opportunity, the grade lower than 80% will remain. I will e-mail parents bi-weekly if Aspire shows a grade point at a C or below level in a specific subject.
Late Work
- All work is expected to be of high quality and turned in on time.
- Homework must be turned in at the beginning of the day, or rotation to receive full credit and avoid being considered late.
- If absent, students will be allowed as many days as they were absent to make up their work (e.g. 3 days absent = 3 days to make up work).
- 7 Day Rule: Assignments can be turned in late up to one calendar week after the due date for full credit with a Late Homework Pass (see details below).
- Without a Late Homework Pass, students may still turn in work with a 10% penalty per week (please note that days 1-7 after an assignment will be considered week 1; days 8-14 would be week 2 and will result in a 20% penalty).
Late Homework Pass
~Students will be given 4 Late Homework Passes to use per term. A Late Homework Pass allows a student to turn in a completed assignment for full credit within 7 days of the original due date.
* Late Homework Passes must be completely filled out and attached to the assignment.
* Only one completed assignment per pass may be submitted.
* Late Homework Passes may NOT be used for long term projects, I.R.P. reports, and other 'teacher determined' assignments.
*Late Homework Passes cannot be used for missing and/or incomplete assignments.

Extra Credit
Extra credit should not be relied upon to make up for missing work. That being said, throughout each term I will periodically offer opportunities for extra credit points.
Electronics
If you choose to bring a cell phone or any other electronic item to school, it must remain in a locker turned off at all times. This includes recess, brain breaks, bathroom breaks and lunch. This policy is new this year, please review our updated policy here. The student accepts all responsibility when bringing these items to school.
I do allow electronic readers (kindle, etc.) during silent reading time in class. However, the student must exhibit responsible behavior with the device and can lose the privilege if necessary.

Teacher Communication Policy
Communication is essential to creating a positive, efficient, and successful learning environment. Below are a few practices I have put in place to respect your time as well as my own while fostering clear, quick, and open communication.
- I will do my best to respond to all communication within 24 hours. If you have not heard back from me within that time, your message may have been relegated to my "junk" folder. Please feel free to send me a follow-up message so I do not miss your communication.
- I will respond to e-mails sent after 4:30 pm (M-Th) or 1:30 (F) on the following day. I will respond to e-mails sent on the weekend, including Friday after 1:30 pm, on the following Monday.
- I will keep my website updated as needed throughout the year, and will send frequent updates through Bloomz.
- If a student e-mails me I will forward and copy all parents/guardians for the remainder of any conversation. No electronic communication will take place without the parent being copied and aware.
